I completed my last midterm today! The cooking exam yesterday was my favorite: while we were writing essays on our test, our chef got all of the materials ready for us to make a flourless lemon cake with berry topping. That was a nice and delicious surprise.
This morning I was walking to photography class to take my last midterm and really appreciated the beauty of this city I'm living in. Not that I don't always think Florence is pretty, but it has a way of hiding its beauty sometimes: constant rain (we're on day 9), cold weather and finding myself stuck in the middle of tour groups is what I've been working with for the past two weeks. But this morning was different--it was 9 am, and I heard birds chirping for maybe the first time ever. The streets were relatively empty; the tour groups were not yet up-and-at-it. Vendors were quietly setting up their caravans with trinkets to sell and the sun was shining warmly. It was a crisp walk and it felt like summer in the sunshine and winter in the shade: I got a glimpse of spring for the first time this season. It was lovely.
I'm back in the apartment now finishing up my food (I'm not going to have to throw anything away! I feel old because I'm excited about that fact), cleaning and packing my bags for vacation: I'm heading to Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon. Looking forward to some real guacamole for the first time in two months!
Always keeping in mind that I'm living a dream...XO
